Ra_Sputin seems so pleased with herself about that pun and she kinda looks adorable with that tail wag ^^ Also it is just like adventurers to sometimes just skip all the minions and go straight to the final boss.
She should be proud of herself! Puns don’t get enough respect imo 🙂 Yes, adventurers going ‘straight for the jugular’ of a dungeon can be a problem. Especially if as DM you’ve spent ages designing various rooms and encounters that get skipped by the players. It’s best to design a dungeon in such a way that getting to the final boss is not TOO easy 😉 On the other hand, you can always have the bypassed forces turn up and attack the party from behind, or ambush them on the way out. Flexibility is also key to good DMing 🙂
A bit of threatrical flair helps make for a better DM as well, the reason I was seldom called on for the role. When I was, however, one of my favorite tactics was to have several little side quests, some of which, but not all, were required to be completed in order to assemble all the parts of a special weapon or the reagents for the ultimate poisonous potion or maybe the parts of a shattered philosophers stone needed to translate the scroll you had to steal from the final boss in order to find out how to kill him. I was proud of that one, it involved a secret room with a concealed door which could only be seen on your way OUT of the dungeon. Of course all the traps and whatnot had reset in different ways than they saw on the way in :p. I think that was the last time I was made to DM. lol
